When looking for the consummate trumpeter/flugelhornist with the right sound and presence, look no further than acclaimed artist-songwriter-educator Keith A. Mathis.
Keith has been setting stages on fire for over thirty years with his big, soulful and highly identifiable trumpet sound. Whether he’s playing gospel, pop, rhythm and blues, classical or stretching out in the jazz idiom his diverse background of musical taste is always evident through his creative and passionate interpretations.
Hailing from the Washington DC area, Keith established his love for the trumpet at the age of thirteen and didn’t waste any time becoming a student of music. He considers his love for creating and performing music the “ultimate gift from God.” While Keith is considered a jazz artist his music is greatly influenced by Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Rick Braun, Marvin Gaye, Quincy Jones, Earth-Wind and Fire, Chuck Brown, and Chuck Finley to name a few.
As his reputation expanded across the Washington metropolitan area, Keith received invitations for national opportunities that included the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY, the casinos of Atlantic City and The Elmhurst Jazz Festival. He has shared the stage and opened for numerous well known artists such as Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Otis Williams’ Temptations, The O’Jay’s, Roy Ayers, The Dells, Kurt Carr, Bobby Jones, Jennifer Holliday and Pattie Labelle.
With the highly anticipated release of "Truly Inspired,” it is now Keith’s turn to step into the spotlight as a solo recording artist. The new project is scheduled for release in early 2012.
